Who We Are ~ What We Do
As music advocates and supporters, members of the Wednesday Music Club undertake many activities throughout the season, which runs from October through May. Members choose to be as active as suits their interests.
~ WMC Competitions ~
Each year the WMC holds a competition for music camp scholarships and monetary prizes. It is open to any student in Charlottesville and Albemarle County, as well as those who study with WMC members. Applicants must be recommended by their music teachers. The Annual WMC Competition is held in the late winter, and winners perform at a recital in their honor shortly afterwards.
This year's competition was held at First Presbyterian Church where a total of 76 young musicians competed for 15 monetary prizes and music camp scholarships. Six distinguished judges spent up to 8 hours listening to the performances, carefully rating each soloist. A total of $10,000 was awarded to the winners in 2012.

~ Fundraising ~
The Wednesday Music Club supports the love of music in our community through various means. The generosity of club members and the community at large make it possible to provide performance outlets, music lessons, instrument rentals, music camp scholarships, and financial support.
Endowments and Grants
Endowment funds support many of our youth programs, augmented by donations of numerous club members.
The Maurice Amado Foundation once again has generously awarded a three-year grant to the WMC to cover a variety of music scholarships, awarded through the annual competition each year. In the upcoming competition, to be held on March 2, and in the next two years, $9,000 will be given out to support young musicians in the community.

Over the past nine years, funds for music lesson tuition assistance have come from musical "Soirees" presented in lovely area homes with elegant dinners prepared and donated by club members. Beginning with the 2009-2010 season, funds from the Soirees have been merged with proceeds from other fundraising endeavors in order to support all assistance programs offered by the Club to young musicians. The soiree performances are performed by club members and others who also donate their time. One of the 2011-2012 fundraising events was the Raphael Bell Concert and Patron's Dinner following, which raised $10,000, thanks to the generosity of Raphael Bell, who donated his performance.
The WMC Soiree Cookbook, featuring the soiree reception recipes so well loved, is still available for purchase at all WMC meetings this season. If you are interested in purchasing one of these cookbooks, please choose here.
